Warning: General Spoilers Ahead
Man, that was one intense episode last week, don’t you agree? Jeremy was only trying to do a good thing and find a way to save Sasha and his family’s lives, and in the end, the negotiations blow to hell and everything is left worse than before. Sigh. If last week’s episode was about a futile attempt at peace between Sasha and Roman, then Monday’s episode is about its aftermath and painful ramifications.
One big theme in this episode is what I call the Wolf Pack’s “prime directive” — if a human sees the change, then that person must be killed in order to protect their kind. This code is questioned this week, and most of the hour is spent with the moral dilemma being explored through the eyes of several key characters. It begins with Clay and Alexei. We learned last week that Alexei either injured or killed a human being during his first change, and it is now Clay’s task to find the victim, and if he is still alive, then eliminate the threat — i.e. kill him. Of course, Alexei is young and idealistic and doesn’t see eye to eye with Clay at all.
Then, there’s the matter of Karen Morgan. Jeremy now has the arduous task of determining what Karen saw, and if she witnessed Alexei’s change, somehow find the strength to kill his friend (and possible love interest).
Finally, we have Elena. As we may recall from season 1, Jeremy almost killed Elena because he thought she saw him change, and the only thing that saved her was Clay’s bite. We can tell in this episode that Jeremy’s actions are still eating away at Elena, even though they happened so long ago, and Jeremy is now more of a father to her than Sasha.
All in all, this is a very emotionally-ripping episode. It will make you smile. It will make you cry. And, by the episode’s final scenes, it will make you angry. Definitely not an episode you’ll want to miss.
Episode 3.05 of Bitten is titled “On Sonders Weight” and airs Monday at 11/10c on Syfy.
