The past year has been rough. No, correction — super-rough. I’ve had some personal issues which has kept me very busy, and then, the COVID-19 pandemic hit. Since mid-March, life as we know it has come to a screeching halt. The new normal has become grab a clean mask, go to work, have little contact with anyone, go home, rinse and repeat.
No sector of the country escaped being impacted, and that includes the entertainment industry. Most of the states began shutting down around mid-March and unfortunately, that was before the production team made the finishing touches to the highly-anticipated season 10 finale of The Walking Dead. To top it off, with the coronavirus starting to surge once again in most of the states — including hard-hit California — it quickly became apparent that San Diego Comic-Con 2020 wasn’t going to happen either. The cancellation was formally announced in May, and with that and the fact that season 11 of the zombie series hasn’t even began production, the Walking Dead universe had hit an indefinite pause button.
The good news is like so many conventions, a great deal of the SDCC panels that fans normally would have waited 12+ hours to get into Hall H to see are being offered virtually. These include The Walking Dead , and as Showrunner Angela Kang promised days before the event, the air date for the season 10 finale titled “A Certain Doom” was formally announced this afternoon at the series’ virtual SDCC panel.
Mark your calendars. The Walking Dead is officially back on October 4, 2020, with the series premiere of The Walking Dead: World Beyond immediately after! Will the survivors make it out of the hospital and how many will we lose in the process? Will the deranged Beta finally meet the same fate as his leader, Alpha, whom he idolized? If you’re a fan of the comics and have read the issue with the same name, you definitely have some ideas of how things will play out. But, as we all know, the comics isn’t a script for the television series, and while you can kick around theories all you want, prepare to be surprised in a big way.
The Walking Dead season 10 finale is titled “A Certain Doom” and airs on October 4th at 9/8c on AMC.
