Warning: General spoilers ahead

For those who know me well, it’s no secret that The Strain is one of my favorite shows, and Mr. Quinlan, hands-down, is my favorite character — from the trilogy, the comics, and now, from the television series. When the 2.07 title of “The Born” was originally announced, most die-hard fans expected this to be the episode where the Quinlan character would be introduced and possibly, where we would learn some of his backstory and his connection to the Master.

Well, the writers pulled a fast one on the fans, and the famous dhampir made his big entrance instead in episode 2.05 “Quick and Painless.” That said, what can we expect in Sunday’s episode? If you go back and listen to Quinlan’s speech to the Ancients in last night’s “Identity,” Q mentions the city of Rome and with a great deal of longing and fondness in his voice. When I first heard that, I immediately began to wonder, and as it turns out, my suspicions were correct.

In the trilogy, we learn that Mr. Quinlan had once been a Roman gladiator, and even though this part of his backstory shows up much later in the books, it appears the writers decided to reveal this detail sooner rather than later in the television series as the below teaser video indicates. If you are a book reader, I’m sure you’re thrilled as I most certainly am. And, if you’re not, well, if you don’t love the Quinlan character by now, then you most definitely will after this episode.
