Warning: General spoilers ahead
Truth be told here, while I love Johnny Rock, Flash, and the whole crew of Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll , I wasn’t exactly thrilled with the season 1 finale. Yes, I know at the time when it was written and filmed, no one had any idea what would happen with the show or whether we’d ever see these characters again. But, even still, they could have left things at a cliffhanger, even if only a small one, and no one would have thought twice about it. Instead, we are left with images of Gigi (Elizabeth Gillies), stinky vaginas and Johnny (Denis Leary) getting chewed out by his daughter for potentially ruining her career. Kinda flat for a season-ender, in my humble opinion.
But, the good news is a brand new season awaits us tomorrow, and with a little bit of luck, the writers will have found that magical working formula with a full season now until their belts. Well, I have screened the first few episodes of the show’s sophomore season, and if these are any indicators of what’s to come for the remaining episodes, we’re all in for a hell of a trip for the next 10 weeks.
In tomorrow’s season 2 premiere, Johnny and the crew get a big wake-up call when a dear friend dies suddenly at the young age of 45. No spoilers here on who the poor soul is, but I will say it’s a character we saw in season 1, albeit very briefly. So, with everyone in the group actually older than the dearly departed, they begin pondering life choices, their future, as well as those important details like finding the perfect photo to put on their funeral card.
But, besides this, it also leads to some trips down memory lane, which ultimately uncover secrets that some thought had long since been buried for good. Tempers flare, lines are drawn, and once again, the Assassins are delved another huge blow that could tear the group apart once and for all.
The season 2 premiere of Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll is titled “All That Glitters Is Gold” and airs Thursday at 10/9c on FX.
