Warning: General spoilers ahead
Getting a new television series off the ground can be a bitch. It’s often quite difficult to find that perfect working formula to where the show really clicks with viewers, and then once you do, it can be even harder to maintain. This being said, I am very happy to report that while Roadies may have had a rocky start with the first 2 episodes, if tomorrow’s 3rd installment is any indication, the series just may have found its niche because it’s a solid hour of effin’ hilarious TV.
This is the episode where Rainn Wilson makes his initial appearance as Bryce Newman, an obnoxious music blogger who takes a big nasty dump all over the Staton-House Band in his latest post. Calling them “relentlessly irrelevant,” Bryce manages to kick up a real sh*tstorm in a group that is already wearing thin now that Reg Dickhead is around and giving orders.
But, hey, no worries because Reg is smarter than everyone else, and he has a plan. Invite Bryce to the show, treat him like a King, and basically, kiss his ass. Of course, this is a bitter pill to swallow given our group wants nothing more than to kick the guy’s ass instead. So, as you might suspect, they end up giving Bryce a little taste of his own medicine — and, in this case, **literally** courtesy of Wes and his “memorable” expresso. Oh, and if you’re wondering what happened to our crazy-ass stalker, Natalie Shin (Jacqueline Byers), well, she’s back too, and she’s not very happy either with Bryce’s attack on the guys she obsesses over on a daily basis.
I really don’t want to give much more away, and so, all I can say is tune in if you want to have a damn good laugh. Rainn Wilson most definitely steals the show and gives a stellar performance that is perfect, hysterical, and certainly Emmy-worthy.
Episode 1.03 of Roadies is titled “The Bryce Newman Letter” and airs Sunday at 10/9c on Showtime.
