Warning: Spoilers Ahead

Still reeling from last week’s tragic episode? Yeah, I am too. I had a strong suspicion several episodes back that Brother Michael would ultimately go completely Jim Jones, but I never imagined it would be so horrific. That final scene with the little boy looking up at Michael, trusting him, and then taking the poison? That is something that you can’t easily forget.

A good deal of Friday’s episode involves the aftermath of the mass suicide — not only how the surviving members of the community, like Anne, come to terms with the disaster but also deciding what should be done with Michael now that we know what he’s capable of.  I’ve screened it, and I can tell you it’s a fantastic episode — definitely the best one of the season. While I don’t want to spoil it for everyone, here’s a few hints of what you can expect:

• Music has always been an integral part of this series, and this episode opens with the folk song “Plow Under” by Peter Seeger. Very appropriate given Michael’s comparison of his flock to crops in the last episode, don’t you think? It’s a very catchy tune, and trust me when I say you’re going to have trouble getting it out of your head! You can find it on iTunes by clicking here.
• The Coast Guard returns to the island early, and they don’t bring any good news.
• The CDC team make a startling discovery about the mycotics living outside the walls of the compound.
• We finally learn who took Sarah’s baby and why (and the answers will probably shock you!).
• One of the central themes of the episode is saying good-bye. This is, of course, related to the deaths of the majority of Michael’s followers from the last episode, but it is also tied to the death of a particular character. Yes, folks, a character dies this week, and no, I’m not saying anything more about that. You’ll just have to wait and watch the episode yourself on Friday 🙂
