Warning: Spoilers Ahead
The final installment of the Person of Interest trilogy airs tomorrow night, and the one thing I can tell you after having seen the episode is that you should be excited. And, when I say “excited,” I don’t necessarily mean we’ll get some big revelation about Shaw and her fate (hey, I’m’ under threat of life and limb by CBS to keep my mouth shut on that one! No, I’m kidding, but seriously, my lips are sealed). What I do mean is that it’s another top-notch, action-packed, fast-moving episode that has become so typical of this series, and in some ways, could end up being a game-changer in this war with Samaritan.
One thing I can tell you is the primary focus isn’t on finding and saving Shaw, and instead, the spotlight is on another character, Control (Camryn Manheim), as is suggested by the episode’s title “Control-Alt-Delete.” We haven’t seen much of this character since the big showdown with Vigilance in the season 3 finale, but she’s still out there, and she’s been pretty busy. You may recall that the government decommissioned the Machine, and Research is now being served by Samaritan. So while all of this mayhem has been going down between the Machine, Finch’s team, and Samaritan, Control and her team have been interfacing with Samaritan all along. That’s a detail that I actually had forgotten about, and so, this episode served as a good reminder of that. This actually turns out to be pretty important.
Besides Control, of course, several of the other characters had some excellent scenes. Amy Acker does a stellar job as Root, and we are able to see another side of the character that we hadn’t seen before, a more human side. She’s completely despondent, she’s desperate, and she’s also very angry, all to the point where she’s willing to do just about anything to anybody in order to find Sameen. There’s also an excellent scene between Finch and Control, and Michael Emerson delivers an amazing performance. Basically top-shelf acting by the entire cast in this episode.
We also have the return of Oakes Fegley as the creepy Samaritan avatar, Gabriel. He has only 2 brief scenes in the episode but both of them made my hair stand up on end. This kid is going to be major trouble for Team Machine going forward, you can bet on that.
Finally, the episode has some brilliant tie backs to a couple of earlier episodes this season and addresses some details regarding Samaritan that may have slipped some people’s minds. This series has an impeccable talent of never introducing a storyline or particular detail unless it is utilized some way later on, and this episode is a perfect example of that. So, if you are a die-hard fan and want to prepare for tomorrow’s big episode, it might be helpful (and if would be fun!) to re-watch some of the episodes from the beginning of the season.
Michael Gaston (Unforgettable) guest-stars as Chief of Staff Mike Richelli, and John Doman reprises his role as Senator Garrison.
Episode 4.12 of Person of Interest is titled “Control-Alt-Delete” and airs tomorrow night at 10/9c on CBS.
In the meantime, be sure to check out the below exclusive sneak peek video. It doesn’t appear that Control is in control anymore, does it? And, boy, she doesn’t like it!
