Warning: General spoilers ahead
After I had screened Saturday’s series finale and as I was pondering on what to say in this Preview, taking care not to reveal too much, I kept coming back to what John Fawcett and Graeme Manson said a while back — that they wanted to give the fans a finale that wouldn’t make them sad (or at least sadder) that the series was ending. Now, of course, most of the fandom is going to be sad regardless, but I think we can see the point they’re trying to make.
As it turns out, that is perhaps the biggest hint I can give you on what to expect in Saturday’s final trip with Sarah and her sestras. Don’t try to over-analyze it, turn it around, and create something that’s not there. Just take the statement at face value, relax and watch the final hour of one of the best series on television. Besides this, there’s not much else I’m going to say about the episode, but here are a few teasers that hopefully will hold you over for the next 48 hours:
That’s it, folks! That’s all I have for you, because anything more would teeter on being way too spoilery. But, I will leave you with this. In my Previews of the past few episodes, there has been a running joke where I have explicitly stated you should have Jack Daniels ready because you’ll need it. Well, I am very happy to report that you can leave the bourbon in the liquor cabinet this week. I.E. — Don’t be nervous, don’t be scared for this finale. Instead, celebrate by bringing out a bottle of fine wine. Pour yourself a glass (or two, or three!), kick back, and propose a toast to Sarah, her sestras, the next chapter of their lives — and to this wonderful fandom that, even though the show may ending, will never die.
The series finale of Orphan Black is titled “To Right The Wrongs Of Many” and airs Saturday at 10/9c on BBC America.
