Warning: General spoilers ahead
With this being the final season, I think most of us knew going in that we were heading for big heap of heartache, and so far, this final trip has lived up to those expectations. Susan Duncan. Ira. And, M.K., man, that was the worst of them all! Yet, these deaths happened earlier in the season, and there’s still 3 episodes left for Graeme Manson and John Fawcett to rip out our hearts and stomp it into the dirt. Does that happen in tomorrow’s episode? Oh yeah.
This is a big episode, folks, and so big that BBC America didn’t even release an official promo. Because of that, I can’t really say much either, but I can give you a few teasers. First, as was teased at the end of last week’s episode, it appears that sweet Gracie (Zoe de Grand Maison) and Mark (Ari Millen) are working with Virginia Coady (Kyra Harper) to flush out Helena, and with her showing up at the convent, it appears she may have succeeded. However, there are 2 big questions? First, will Helena see through what Gracie’s up to? After all, that woman can smell a rat a mile away! Secondly, even if Helena doesn’t suspect, will Gracie be able to go through with it and betray someone she considers her friend? It’s a very interesting dynamic between these 2 women, and how it all plays out may surprise you.
Elsewhere, the opening night of Felix’s (Jordan Gavaris) new gallery has finally arrived, and with their recent victory in exposing P.T. Westmoreland and his fraud, Mrs. S (Maria Doyle Kennedy) says the timing is perfect and everyone should take a day off to support Felix. Sarah disagrees, believes that everything is too quiet and they shouldn’t let their guard down. But, you know Mrs. S and how she won’t take “No” for an answer! So, Sarah reluctantly agrees to attend the opening night party, and in fact, virtually every character makes an appearance. Sarah, Cosima, Alison, Donnie, Art, Delphine, Scott, Adele, and you remember Colin (Nicholas Rose) from way back in season 1? Yeah, Colin was the guy who worked at the morgue and who eventually hooked up with Felix. Anyways, he attends the party, and it looks like he and Felix are back on! These scenes are fantastic and very reminiscent of those from the dinner party at the end of season 3. They’re very warm-and-fuzzy, which I’m sure is intentional because that will make what happens next even more shocking.
So, while Sarah and her sisters, Adele, and everyone else are planning Felix’s big night, Mrs. S and a few other characters are planning something else. Armed with the information that Adele (Lauren Hammersley) and Delphine (Evelyne Brochu) tirelessly uncovered while in Europe, they strike up a deal with Rachel to merge their intel with all of her supporting evidence in order to bring down Dyad, P.T. and all those pricks once and for all. However, not everything is as it seems. Underneath it all, there are ulterior motives which result in double-crossings, betrayals, all of which prove to be deadly.
There have been lots of rumors surrounding this episode, and all I can say is if you think you know everything that’s going to happen, you don’t. There’s a reason why BBC released the below message in lieu of a promo, and that’s because it’s the truth — this episode will shock you in ways you can’t even imagine. So, get the Jack Daniels ready (oh, and don’t forget the tissues!), because come tomorrow night, it’s going to be a hell of a roller coaster ride!
Episode 5.08 of Orphan Black is titled “Guillotines Decide” and airs Saturday at 10/9c on BBC America. Because this is such a huge episode, I’ll be live-tweeting during the East Coast airing, and you can follow along with me on Twitter @MaryTheGeek.
