Warning: General spoilers ahead
If you were hoping that Benson’s much-needed Parisian getaway with Tucker would set the stage for a less intense Season 18… um, have you ever watched this show?
Heading into its 18th season and still going strong, the NBC vet returns tonight with an episode that starts with a child wandering alone in Central Park and ends with SVU working with the joint-terrorism task force to thwart a major attack on New York City. To complicate matters, the boy’s mother alleges that she has been raped and tortured, which leads to a (bigger-than-usual) clash between Olivia (Mariska Hargitay) and ADA Barba (Raul Esparza). With all the recent violence in Paris, Orlando, Dallas, etc. and the fact the shooting kills a decorated NYC police officer, Barba insists that the woman must be held accountable, and her being brutally raped is completely irrelevant. Irrelevant?! Of course, you can imagine how such statements go over with Benson, and it’s safe to say that Olivia won’t back down and let it go without a fight.
The season 18 premiere of Law & Order: SVU is titled “Terrorized” and airs tonight at 9/8c on NBC.
