Warning: General spoilers ahead
In tonight’s very emotional episode of SVU, Benson must disclose the secrets of her past to help a rape victim (guest star Melora Walters) recall the details of one terrible, traumatic night.
This particular episode is what we call a “bottle episode” in that the vast majority takes place in one location and features only a single character — in this case, Lt. Benson. If you’re a long-time viewer of the show, this may remind you of the 2005 episode “911,” which focused on a phone call between Benson and a 9 year-old girl who turned out to be a victim of a sex trafficking ring. That particular episode earned Mariska Hargitay an Emmy win for “Outstanding Lead Actress In A Drama Series,” and given that Hargitay’s performance in tonight’s episode is just as phenomenal, let’s hope that history repeats itself. Heaven knows, Mariska so very much deserves it.
Episode 19.07 of Law & Order: SVU is titled “Something Happened” and airs tonight at 9/8c on NBC.
