Warning: Spoilers Ahead
For those who didn’t care much for Sunday’s Travis/Chris adventure, you’re in luck. This week the focus is shifted to Madison (Kim Dickens), Strand (Colman Domingo), Alicia (Alycia Debham-Carey) and their Hotel of the Dead woes, with a couple of check-in’s with Nick (Frank Dillane) and Co. back at the Colonia.
To begin with, what about the title of the episode, “Pablo & Jessica”? Let’s address the “Pablo” part first. As we see in the promo, Nick is very eager to help out at the Colonia, and in particular, make up to Alejandro (Paul Calderon) for his carelessness on the supply run. So, given that they are starting to run low on Oxy, Nick has an idea on how to make it last longer — crush the pills, mix in some powdered milk, and then, reconstitute the mixture into new pills. Alejandro is at first skeptical, but after Nick actually pulls it off, he can’t help but be impressed. Anyways, during their time together, Alejandro is informed that they finally found Pablo’s body and that “he’s torn to pieces.” We later learn that Pablo was Luciana’s (Danay Garcia) brother.
Back at the hotel and in the opening scene of the episode, we **finally** learn how Madison and Strand managed to escape from that horde at the bar. Care to take a guess how they did it? Let’s just say that Madison takes a page from Nick’s playbook. I’m very glad to see that while Madison may have written Nick off in the past, one of his ideas is actually what saves her and Strand’s life. Well, once they escape the hotel bar and reunite with Alicia, Madison makes a very good argument for staying at the hotel (especially since their truck is gone, and it is believed that Ofelia is the one who stole it and took off). The hotel has supplies and months worth of food, and if they can clear it of walkers, it would be pretty safe. However, she is also adamant that if there’s any hope at all of pulling this off, they must all come together — regardless of the hard feelings the hotel guests have towards Elena and Hector. I must admit that Madison does give a fantastic speech and in the end, wins everyone over with the exception of the mother of the bride.
So, Madison, Strand, Alicia and the other hotel guests begin the arduous task of clearing the place of the dead and burning the bodies on the beach. It’s a very slow process, and Madison says it could take weeks. Then, Alicia has a genius idea, one that would be much faster and wouldn’t require them to put down all the infected. Any guesses as to what the idea is? HINT: The below pictures offer a big clue. What do you think those warning signs on the posts of the pier say?
Now, back to the episode title — so, who is “Jessica”? Well, this is the tear-jerker part of the episode. Jessica is the name of the bride of the wedding party, and while everything has been going on, we learn at the end of the episode that the groom has had his newly-turned bride locked inside the honeymoon suite of the hotel all this time. Fortunately, one of our characters finally talks him into handing over the key so that he/she can go in and do what the new groom can not.
Rest in peace, Pablo and Jessica.
Episode 2.11 of Fear The Walking Dead is titled “Pablo & Jessica” and airs Sunday at 9/8c on AMC.
