Warning: Spoilers Ahead
Okay, folks, if you thought last week’s episode was intense, just you wait until Sunday because honestly, that was nothing. Of all the episodes of Fear The Walking Dead, this will be the one that will be so gripping, so compelling that you won’t once look up at the clock and you will be screaming when you realize that an hour has passed and the episode is over. Yes, all my peeps, it’s that good.
So, what can I tell you? Well, first, the answer to probably THE most burning question — do we see Alex and Jake this week or learn their fate? Unfortunately, “no” and “no.” Yes, I know that really sucks, but I’m not really worried because I’m all but certain that we’ll see them again (well, at least Alex. The jury’s still out on whether Jake will survive). After all, why go through all that trouble of the Flight 462 webisodes only to get a single episode of FTWD out of it, right?
The good news is for those who have been dying to get Strand’s (Colman Domingo) backstory, you will get your wish this week — and in spades. In a great series of flashbacks, we follow Strand’s life from where he lost everything back when Hurricane Katrina hit in New Orleans until right before the outbreak, showing how he rebuilt his fortune from the ground up. But, hey, don’t everyone start thinking Strand is a brilliant businessman with degrees from Harvard and Yale, because how he pulled it off is shady as hell. I always had a feeling the guy was a con-man, and now, the flashbacks only prove it. Oh, as an added bonus, we also get a glimpse into Strand’s personal life, and one of the details I am certain will blow your socks off. I saw the con-man in Strand, but boy, I would have never guessed this one!
In the meantime, everyone aboard the Abigail runs into trouble when they come under attack by a group of survivors posing as a family desperate for help — a pregnant woman feigning labor pains and all. So, who are these people and what do they want? Let’s just say our characters have crossed paths with them before — at least in a way. I was already pissed at Strand from last week’s episode, and the crap he pulls in some of the flashbacks only made me angrier at the man. But, I will give him credit for one thing — he was right on target on who and what these people were.
A few other tidbits. Nick (Frank Dillane) is, once again, the hero this week, when he manages to locate Strand’s associate on shore while everyone else is being held captive on the Abigail. Nick also gets to change clothes not just once but twice — with his final outfit being completely black. Ah, look, a mini-Strand! Although it is never said, it becomes pretty clear that the reason Strand allowed the group to come with him is solely because of Nick. Strand may be a crook, but he does know people, and he saw something in Nick that no one else could. I don’t know what Nick will think once he learns of Strand’s past, but for the time being, the 2 are forming a very unlikely — but very strong — friendship and partnership.
Episode 2.04 of Fear The Walking Dead is titled “Blood In The Streets” and airs Sunday at 9/8c on AMC.
