Warning: Spoilers Ahead
For those who know me well, it’s no secret that The Walking Dead is one of my favorite shows, and I’m also a big fan of Syfy’s spin on the zombie apocalypse, Z Nation. So when the promo for Friday’s episode of Dark Matter first aired, I literally squealed in excitement (and nearly choked on my shot of whiskey!). It seems you can get on a spaceship and travel light years away but you still can’t escape the Walking Dead.
In Friday’s episode, the “handler” of the Raza crew finally catches up to them, and he’s pretty pissed they skipped out on the Ferrous Corp job. But, to make it up to him, he offers them a deal — go on a salvage mission to retrieve a freighter ship, and he’ll call it even. Sounds a little hinky to you? Yeah, me too.
Once there, they find the ship’s crew isn’t all dead like they were told. Instead, there are plenty that are still technically “alive” but have been transformed into raging cannibals. Lots and lots of intense action in this episode, with Three proving to be a damn good shot. I think if I were facing a horde in a zombie apocalypse, I’d want him on my side.
Now, the big question, will the entire crew make it out alive? Nope, not saying (of course!), so you’ll have to watch. But, I will say this mysterious disease does reveal something pretty shocking about one member of the Raza crew at the very end of the episode.
Besides this, in the final scenes we also get a shocking revelation about Three. He puts on this big facade of being tough, crude, rude, self-centered, and about another dozen non-flattering adjectives, but as it turns out, there’s a lot more there than meets the eye. Yes, for those Three-haters out there, you may just like the guy by the end of the hour.
“Episode Five” of Dark Matter airs Friday at 10/9c on Syfy.
Also, don’t forget EP Joe Mallozzi and the cast will be at SDCC tomorrow and Friday. An autograph signing will take place on Thursday, July 9 at 5 p.m. and Friday, July 10 at 3 p.m. at the Dark Horse Comics Booth (San Diego Convention Centre, Booth #2615). There will also be a panel at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday in Room 6BDF.
