Warning: General spoilers ahead
Last week’s episode of Colony ended with the mother of all tear-jerkers. Jennifer McMann (Kathleen Rose Perkins), unable to bring herself to turn Katie (Sarah Wayne Callies) in and destroy her and Will’s family, decides to end it all and (presumably) commit suicide. For most people in this cruel new world run by the Occupation, the answer would have been so simple. Turn Katie in, impress your new boss and get that promotion. It’s basically like Jennifer’s co-worker, Betsy, said — “You need to look out for yourself.” But, in the end, Jennifer proved that she was, indeed, a good person but also very weak, just like Will had told Katie. Tomorrow’s episode continues this storyline as we see the aftermath at Homeland of Jennifer’s decision.
Now that Charlie (Jacob Buster) is home and has settled back in, Will (Josh Holloway) decides it’s time to go back to work, to Katie’s dismay. Anything otherwise would look suspicious, especially now that he knows they’re being watched. We can’t be sure how long Will has been gone from Homeland, but it’s likely no more than 3 or 4 weeks. However, during this short time, virtually everything has changed. First, he has to face Dan Bennett (Christian Clemenson) , who is more than a little suspicious of him. While Bennett does admit that recovering the kidnapped Host was admirable, he is also convinced that the department has a leak, and Will and Beau are on his short list of suspects. But, at the same time, Bennett also needs to apprehend Broussard (Tory Kittles), and given that Will has a stellar reputation as an investigator, Bennett does finally reinstate him — but with the goon, Burke (Toby Huss), as his new partner.
Now that Will has his badge and gun back and thus, have full access to Homeland, that’s when he notices that Jennifer is gone. When he asks Burke about it, his response — “Jennifer who?” Will even asks Jennifer’s co-worker, Betsy, where Jennifer is, and she acts like she doesn’t know what he’s talking about (remember what Betsy told Jennifer, “You need to look out for yourself.” I guess she’s looking out for **herself** now!). It’s as if Jennifer has been erased. But, we all know Will Bowman. Do you really believe he will just let this go? Of course not! Trust me, he’s going to find out what happened.
Moving on to Broussard, he’s been pretty much MIA for the first few episodes of the season, but we finally learn what he’s been up to since the events of the season 1 finale. As we may recall, Broussard’s group kept the communications device of the Host they killed last season, and finally puts it to good use. Using the device to lure in and deactivate a drone, they are able to attach a camera and can now see all of the drone’s movements, which also includes the inside of the wall.
In the meantime, big trouble is brewing at Snyder’s (Peter Jacobson) labor camp, and Bram ends up being caught in the middle. A violent radical group is in the making, and it turns out Bram’s new friend is part of that group. At the same time, he has the pact with Snyder who has sworn to protect him and get him out of the labor camp. For Bram, which is more important — loyalty to his friends, or his freedom?
Episode 2.05 of Colony is titled “Company Man” and airs Thursday at 10/9c on USA.
