Warning: Spoilers Ahead
In last week’s fast-paced series premiere, Cole (Aaron Stanford) completes his assigned mission of killing Leland Frost, only to find out that Frost wasn’t the key to stopping the plague. Instead, he follows a clue uttered by Frost before he killed him — the Army of the 12 Monkeys. Who are they? *What* are they?
In tomorrow’s episode, Cole is sent back to 2015 once again to find the origin of the 12 Monkeys symbol, which leads him to Leland Goines’ daughter, Jennifer (yes, it’s Brad Pitts’ counterpart, Jeffrey Goines, from the original film) — a paranoid schizophrenic who has been locked up in a mental institution for the past two years.
We are also introduced to a mysterious new villain portrayed by the amazing talent, Tom Noonan. As it turns out, this man also recognizes Cole as someone he had met years ago, obviously when Cole had gone further back in time. How does this all fit together and who is the real villain here? Only time will tell, but at least we get a few more pieces of the puzzle.
Episode 1.02 of 12 Monkeys is titled “Mentally Divergent” and airs tomorrow night at 9/8c on Syfy.
