Warning: General spoilers ahead
Last week’s episode ended with Ramse (Kirk Acevedo) and Cassie (Amanda Schull) putting aside their differences and their utter dislike for each other to go after their common nemesis, The Witness, and locate his safe haven, the so-called “Titan.” Unfortunately, any place called Titan is nowhere to be found in the limited databases they have. However, while Hannah may be having difficulty adjusting to the idea of a new “Mother” after 24 years, she does prove herself useful by providing Ramse and Cassie the name of someone who might be able to help.
In the meantime, Cole (Aaron Stanford) feels he has more important missions to tackle especially after Dr. Jones (Barbara Sukowa) believes that there is still one Primary left, probably living sometime between 1951 and 1973. The downside is no one knows the Primary’s identity and to top it off, the only person who likely knows at all is the Tall Man (Tom Noonan). As we may recall, the Tall Man is the one who murdered Cole’s father, and now, Cole must go back in time and somehow manage to keep his father’s killer alive so that he can get the information they need.
As we might expect, this turns out to not be easy. When Cole gets to 2016, he immediately runs into Jennifer (Emily Hampshire) who is even more crazy and psychotic than ever (if that were even possible!), and what’s more, she has formed her own radical, revolutionary group dubbed “The Hyenas” whose sole purpose is to stop the Witness from destroying time. Of course, with the Tall Man now being the interface with the Witness, killing the Tall Man immediately becomes their top priority, which is the total opposite of what Cole is trying to do.
Is sh*t about to hit the fan? Oh yes. Should we expect any kind of happy ending? Absolutely not.
Episode 2.09 of 12 Monkeys is titled “Hyena” and airs Monday at 9/8c on Syfy.
