“Ring around the Rosey. A pocket full of posies. Ashes, Ashes. We all fall down. “
Back several years ago when CSI: Miami was still on the air, one of the most memorable episodes had the same episode title and opened with a child singing this nursery rhyme. It was bone-chilling. It was creepy. And, as it turned out, it was also quite ominous because by the end of the hour, multiple bodies had piled up.
Well, in tomorrow’s Fear The Walking Dead, a character is shown singing this same nursery rhyme, and in a very similar fashion, it ends up serving as an omen, foreshadowing death and despair that comes knocking by the end of the episode. Oh, snap! Does that mean we’re going to have our first major death in season 2? Sorry, but of course I can’t tell you that, and so, you’ll just have to watch!
Most of the hour is focused on a survivalist family that the group encounters on a nearby island where they are hiding out from the pirates that were on their tail last week. If it wasn’t clear last week, it certainly is driven home in tomorrow’s episode that the waters are definitely not safe. Ferry accidents. People killed on the mainland. All of these creating a steady stream of walkers showing up daily on the beaches of the island. Fortunately, this reclusive family is pretty skilled with guns and pitch forks, and so, they have no problem keeping the undead at bay. Heck, they even teach Chris (Lorenzo Henrie) a thing or 2 about taking out walkers. And, to my surprise, Chris seems to have no problem putting a spike through a walker’s head — unlike his spineless father.
In the meantime, Salazar (Ruben Blades) continues his investigation of Strand (Colman Domingo). He manages to break into Strand’s safe, which turns out to be full of automatic weapons and maps. Strand had been saying they were going to San Diego, but one map suggests they may actually be heading for Mexico. Hmmmm. Could Strand possibly be some kind of arms dealer? Either way, I’m sure whatever he’s mixed up in, it’s shady as hell, and he’s about to pull the rest of the group into his scheme.
Episode 2.02 of Fear The Walking Dead is titled “We All Fall Down” and airs tomorrow at 9/8c on AMC.
