Warning: General Spoilers Ahead
For me, this season of Shades of Blue has almost been like a roller coaster ride. It started out with a few twists and turns, a sharp one being when Wozniak (Ray Liotta) almost shot Harlee (Jennifer Lopez). Since then, it’s like we’ve been slowly climbing a hill, one tick at a time, inching our way towards the top. And, last week with the “Holy crap!” moment where Wozniak pushes Saperstein (Santino Fontana) off a 4-story building, we finally made it, looking over the edge and expecting to drop at any moment. Well, tomorrow’s episode is where we do finally plunge over the edge, going a 100 MPH and screaming our heads off. No joke, everyone. This week’s episode is that intense, and so, buckle down and hold on tight to the rails because you’re in for a hell of a ride.
The amazing thing about this episode and what makes it so gripping isn’t some emotionally-charged case. Nor is it some big action sequence. Instead, it’s the characters. Here we see everyone on the team at their absolute worse, and how each of them handles the situation speaks volumes about their true character. Wozniak — what can I say? I’m still trying to wrap my head around how he could do something like that to Saperstein, someone he supposedly cared about and called his friend, but trust me, he gets much worse this week. He lies to Harlee straight-faced about his involvement and feigns grief and concern over Saperstein being injured and fighting for his life. Then, he continues his deceit with Saperstein’s mother when she’s at the hospital and inconsolable over seeing her son in this condition. And, then, when Harlee finally corners Woz and he confesses, he doesn’t even have the balls to take any blame, and instead, claims he did it for Christine to make sure her dream of Julliard becomes reality. Really? But, will Wozniak do the unthinkable and kill Saperstein in his hospital bed where he can’t even defend himself? Is he that far gone?
Find out tomorrow night at 10/9c on NBC, and trust me when I say this is THE episode you won’t want to miss.
