Warning: Spoilers Ahead
At the end of the 1st hour of the #OneChicago event, Hermann’s life hangs in the balance. Dr. Rhodes (Colin Donnell) had tried to avoid surgery from the get-go because he felt Hermann had lost too much blood and was too weak, but now, there’s no choice. They can’t stop the bleeding from Hermann’s liver, and so, it’s either surgery or a sure death. Do you think Firehouse 51’s clown will survive? We should all recall that with what happened with Leslie Shay and the departure of the Peter Mills character, this show has made clear it is willing to drop a character if it moves the plot forward.
Besides the Hermann and Freddie storyline, the other major arc in this episode revolves around Jessica Pope, the gas leak and fire victim brought to Chicago Med in the last episode. As it turns out, the doctors discover that Jessica had been on chemo, but thanks to Dr. Charles (Oliver Platt) and his highly-skilled detective work, we quickly learn things aren’t as they seem. While Jessica may have been on chemo, she had no signs of cancer. What’s more, she had been given a massive overdose of chemo, which was responsible for her falling into a coma.
However, the big shocker comes when 2 more patients show up at Chicago Med with the same symptoms, who also supposedly had cancer, but whom had OD’ed on chemo. Fortunately, Dr. Charles is able to connect all the dots, but now the race is on to figure out who is doing this and why. An inept oncologist or someone who has much more malevolent motives.
