Warning: Spoilers Ahead
You would think that if you were about to assassinate one of the most prominent and wealthiest men in the world, you would spend at least a little bit of time practicing, right? This is especially true if you are Ephraim Goodweather and have about as bad an aim as my 75 year-old mother who is half-blind. But, does Eph spend any time at all trying to improve his shot? Well, of course not! Instead, he and Dutch fill the time they have playing with surveillance gadgets to track Eldritch Palmer’s movements, and oh, flirting with each other with some seriously risque sex talk. Well, actually the latter is mostly Dutch doing the talking, but Eph doesn’t exactly tell her to stop. So, what’s next? Dutch moves on to Dr. Goodweather after she gets tired of banging Nikki? Is there **anybody** this girl doesn’t want to screw?
Well, as you probably can guess, the attempt on Palmer’s life goes completely sideways. As the below sneak peek hints at, Eph ends up hitting Coco instead. And, with Palmer proclaiming his love for Coco at the beginning of the episode, he desperately calls on the Master for help. Surprisingly enough, the Master does respond and in fact, heals Coco (instead of turning her, which is what a great deal of the fans were suspecting might happen). While this is, indeed, a surprise, the real shocker comes after the Master leaves Stoneheart, and I absolutely cannot wait until next week to see the fallout of those events.
In the meantime, Fet, Nora, and Abraham are hot on the trail of the Occido Lumen. Setrakian is able to determine that there are 4 people in NYC with the same name as the boy from the convent, and so, most of the episode is spent breaking into and scoping out each of these locations. As the promo indicates, Abraham does, in fact, locate the Lumen, but of course, runs into trouble after Fet and Nora are forced to abandon the old man to go and help Eph and Dutch after their failed assassination attempt.
Lastly, to the dismay of all the Quinlan fans out there, neither Q, Gus, nor Angel are in this episode. Sigh. However, as a consolation, check out the below behind-the-scenes video of Quinlan and the Ancients. It provides an excellent background on the beloved dhampir and also has some great shots of the makeup process for the Quinlan character. FX has always done some great “Inside the Strain” videos, but this one, by far, is one of the best.
Episode 2.10 of The Strain is titled “The Assassin” and airs Sunday at 10/9c on FX.
