Warning: Spoilers Ahead

9 months. That’s how long those sadistic writers of Z Nation made us wait after dropping the mother of all cliffhangers in our laps in the season 1 finale last December. Well, 3 days from now the wait will finally be over, and after having screened the season 2 premiere, I will tell you that it was all definitely worth it.

The season 2 premiere begins mere moments after the nukes launch, and it’s every man for him or herself when the team splits up and tries to outrun the impending blast. After having interviewed Showrunner Karl Schaefer earlier this summer, we pretty much knew this already, but what happens beyond that has been fair game. Well, I have screened the premiere, and what I can say is that even if you take the craziest, most far-fetched dream you’ve ever had, that would pale compared to the insanity in this episode (and, when I say “insanity,” it’s a good thing!). Of course, for those loyal Z Nation viewers out there, this really shouldn’t surprise you as the entire season 1 was one crazy roller coaster ride in itself.

I certainly don’t want to give much away as this episode is one that you really need to watch live, but here are a few teasers that you can look forward to while we wait for Friday to get here:

1. As the title of the episode “The Murphy” indicates, the episode is about, well, Murphy (Keith Allan) — tracking him down and getting back on the road to California. However, Murphy isn’t too keen on the idea anymore, thinks perhaps humanity may not be worth saving, and honestly, just wants to have some fun. After all, why in the hell not! This includes crashing a Z-infested strip joint in Cheyenne, Wyoming, and by using his ability to control the Z’s, creating a seriously twisted version of Motley Crue’s “Girls, Girls, Girls.” Very disturbing but also quite hilarious.
2. As the promo pictures below also indicate, Cassandra (Pisay Pao)  survives the blast as well (**how** she survived will be the big shocker & I’ll leave it to you to see that for yourself on Friday). However, right now, her only purpose appears to be an object for Murphy’s amusement while he’s on his booze and girls binge.
3. Citizen Z (DJ Qualls),  as well as his North Pole outpost, manage to dodge the nukes, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t have a fair share of problems. Unfortunately, the blast ends up thawing a whole slew of frozen Z’s, and so, now, Citizen Z has a mini-horde to contend with (and, the guy isn’t the greatest shot either!). Of all the characters, I think this guy is the one that truly is stuck in the crapper.
4. The Sisters of Mercy compound is completely leveled by the nukes, but there is one very important survivor — Pie Girl! (Sara Coates) Yes, Murphy’s cute little blond thing is very much alive, and she’s hot on the trail of her baby daddy! She’s featured in the final scene of the episode, and all I will say is I can’t wait to see the fans’ reactions to that scene on Twitter and elsewhere. Be prepared for the jaw to drop!
5. Lastly, we are introduced to our first new character of the season, Vasquez (Matt Cedeno).  He’s one of many who had heard about the bounty on Murphy (thanks to Citizen Z and some last-minute thinking), but he also appears to take an instant liking to Warren (Kellita Smith). That said, something tells me that big payoff may take a backseat to other matters of the heart in upcoming episodes.

The season 2 premiere of Z Nation  airs Friday at 10/9c on Syfy.
