Warning: Spoilers Ahead
Kelly’s pursuit of her son, Zack, has really been ramping up over the past few weeks, and most of us knew it was only a matter of time. Well, with the help of Eichhorst and his never-ending supply of makeup and prosthetics, strigoi Kelly is magically transformed back into Mommy Kelly, with the hope that it’ll be enough to dupe Zack back into Mom’s loving arms. But with Red Hook on lockdown, roadblocks on every major street, and UV light screenings, will this be enough to get Kelly on the inside? Ironically, even with all of Justine Feraldo’s precautions and fail-safes, Kelly manages to get pretty damn close.
While Eph and Nora are holding down the fort and keeping Zack out of Kelly’s grasp, Setrakian and Fet are out working a new tip on the Occido Lumen which leads them right to the steps of St. Benedict’s Cathedral and to the same Cardinal McNamara that Palmer has been dealing with. Now with 2 players in the game, the pursuit of the Occido Lumen quickly becomes a bidding war. We all know that Palmer has extremely deep pockets, but where is Setrakian getting his financing? Actually Abraham has other plans, and how this ultimately plays out may surprise you.
Finally, we have the meet-up that I’ve been looking forward to for weeks — that of Gus and Mr. Quinlan. On the one hand, it’s a hilarious scene because Gus appears to have no interest in going back to being a hunter, and basically tells Quinlan to go piss off. However, as it turns out, Quinlan discovers that he doesn’t need to use force to get Gus to join him, and instead, realizes that he and Gus have something in common. That shared experience ends up being the one factor that causes Gus to see things from Quinlan’s point-of-view and to ultimately change his mind. Very funny but also very touching, very heartbreaking, and in my opinion, the best scene in the entire episode. With some luck, it looks like we have the beginning of Q’s new group of sun-hunters.
Episode 2.08 of The Strain is titled “Intruders” and airs Sunday at 10/9c on FX.
