Warning: Spoilers Ahead
It’s been well over a year since we lost Josselyn Carter — wow, where does the time go! I visited the Person of Interest set last month, and they told me an interesting story about the measures they took to keep Carter’s death under wraps last season. To keep the fans guessing, they actually shot TWO death scenes. One was done during daytime hours that had Fusco being the one shot and killed. As with any show being filmed in NYC, there were dozens of onlookers, and so, the rumor quickly spread that Detective Fusco was the one being killed off. Then, in the middle of the night and in a relatively quiet area of the city, they shot the real scene — that of Carter being gunned down by Officer Simmons. The streets were deserted at that hour, no spectators, and so, no one had a clue that it was really Detective Carter who would meet her demise in the episode. Yes, extreme lengths to keep a crucial arc a secret, but it should also tell you just how big the production team felt Carter’s death would be. And, they were 100% correct — Detective Carter’s death left the fandom in shock, and it’s still being felt over a year later.
In tonight’s episode, we finally get what fans had been hoping for and that is to see Carter one more time. In a series of flashbacks, we get a very personal glimpse of Detective Carter as Reese tackles a case that Carter was never able to solve. Sure, it’s only one episode, but hey, with such a beloved character like Carter, we’ll take it.
Episode 4.20 of Person of Interest is titled “Terra Incognita” and airs Tuesday at 10/9c on CBS.
