Law & Order: SVU is known for its ripped-from-the-headlines inspiration for its episodes, which is one of the reasons why viewers love the show so much. Tomorrow’s episode is a good example which will tackle the topic of NFL domestic violence and will guest-star The Walking Dead ‘s Chad Coleman and Think Like a Man’s Meagan Good.  Coleman will portray a former sports star-turned reporter who is accused of assaulting his girlfriend.  And even though there is conclusive photographic evidence, the case hits a snag when the couple attempts to hide the charges as well as the abuse.

The case is actually similar to the widely publicized case of now-former Baltimore Ravens player Ray Rice punching his then-fiancée Janay Palmer in Atlantic City. The NFL has been under fire since the incident and since the discovery of a video that showed the crime taking place that TMZ released.

SVU has often dealt with controversial issues throughout its 16 seasons, and this is yet another one of them. “Domestic violence, with a push from Mariska Hargitay‘s NO MORE campaign (www.nomore.org), has recently sparked a long-needed national dialogue,” SVU’s showrunner Warren Leight said.

Episode 16.08 of Law & Order: SVU  is titled “Spousal Privilege” and airs tomorrow night at 9/8c on NBC.
