Warning: General spoilers ahead
As we saw at the end of last week’s episode, it seems Bram (Alex Neustaedter) didn’t learn a thing after barely escaping with his life from that labor camp, because just days later, he’s chatting up the leader of the Red Hand, Karen (Karen Innes), and is ready to go at it again. Come on, man! Of course, it doesn’t help that Bram feels left out of what his Mom and Dad and Broussard (Tory Kittles) are planning, but as he finds out in tomorrow’s episode, Karen is no Broussard, and he ends up getting a lot more than he bargained for.
Thinking back to the Red Hand’s earlier attacks on Homeland and then on Will’s (Josh Holloway) family, the group’s philosophy is pretty simple — if you’re a collaborator, YOU are the enemy, and you should die. After all, if the Raps have no human collaborators, then they are crippled, and that is how we can defeat them. This is Karen’s message to potential recruits, and it seems to work because she has dozens — possibly even hundreds — of loyal followers in the Los Angeles bloc. Bram is one of those new recruits. He begins sneaking out of Broussard’s hideout, and tomorrow, he’s given his very first mission.
And, that first mission is a real doozy. I’m not going to spoil that part for you, but I will say it’s so big that the episode is comprised of that single event played over and over again, but from the perspective of different characters. It’s a very interesting method of storytelling, and Carlton Cuse and Ryan Condal do a stellar job in putting it all together. First, we have the point of view of Bram. Then, Will, Maddie (Amanda Righetti), Katie, and finally, one last character. I won’t reveal who this is, but I will say this final character’s perspective is the defining one and really provides an unsettling moment of truth. It truly sheds some light on one particular character and makes clear that in dire straits and dire times, you really can’t be sure what people are capable of.
We have only 3 episodes left in the season (and, come on, USA Network, renew this show!), and so, naturally, it shouldn’t be too surprising to see the pace pick up and the stakes get higher. That is most certainly true in tomorrow’s episode. Be ready for your jaw to drop after that final scene, but it doesn’t stop there. I’ve already screened next week’s penultimate episode, and trust me when I say what happens tomorrow will have far-reaching consequences as we head into the season 2 finale.
Episode 2.11 of Colony is titled “Lost Boy” and airs Thursday at 10/9c on USA.
