Warning: General spoilers ahead

Isn’t it funny how the Z Nation writers always seem to reference death or ending in the title of the season finales? Season 1 — “Doctor Of The Dead.” Season 2 — “All Good Things Must Come To An End.” Now, with Season 3 — “Everybody Dies In The End.” Very depressing, very ominous. Unfortunately, after having screened tomorrow’s season 3 finale, I will say that title is spot on.

Now, now, don’t go wigging out because I’m not saying all our heroes bite it, but nearly all of them are left in some pretty harrowing circumstances by the end of the hour. As is teased by the below Promotional Photos, all of the group (minus Citizen Z) finally meet back up at the rendezvous point where Lucy (Caitlin Carmichael) is to be picked up and taken back to Zona. However, with The Man (Joseph Gatt)  present along with a whole slew of Zona operatives, this little reunion doesn’t go well at all. Heck, even Murphy (Keith Allan) —  who came out of the season 2 finale completely unscathed — is in pretty bad shape by the end of the episode.

The good news is while most of our beloved characters have some of the worst luck, something good does actually happen for 10K (Nat Zang).  Yay! It’s about time things start to look up for the poor kid! What’s more, in the process we learn a big secret about Murphy, courtesy of Dr. Mei (Sydney Viengluang). Pay attention to this big reveal because I think it might be connected to what happened to Escorpion (Emilio Rivera)  in those final moments of “Heart of Darkness.” No confirmation, but it definitely gives you something to think about.

Finally, after all of that Addy (Anastasia Baranova)  bad-assery last week, the girl doesn’t let up in the finale, not even for a minute. She’s on a mission and won’t let anything stand in her way of finding Lucy — not even a mountain. Bad news — it’s RIP for the Z-Whacker. You can’t really scale a mountain while carrying a bunch of crap, now can you, and so, Addy has to make a tough choice. No worries, though. I’m sure she’ll find another weapon that’s even cooler and more kick-ass.

The season 3 finale of Z Nation  is titled “Everybody Dies In The End” and airs Friday at 9/8c on Syfy. In the meantime, check out the below Part 2 of my exclusive interview with series star Anastasia Baranova where she discusses the finale, looks back on the season and looks forward to Season 4.

TV GEEK TALK: It’s really hard to believe that the season is almost over. With the finale this Friday, what can you tease about the end of the season, in general?

Anastasia Baranova: “If I recall correctly, I think the episode is called ‘Everybody Dies In The End.’ What I think has really been cool about this season is that we have cooked up multiple things on the stove. We’ve got the whole Murphy thing that’s cooking up. Then, there’s Zona. They’re all connected, and they’re all coming together. And, that’s what the finale is. It comes together and in a really big way. What I will say is [as the season ends], Addy is becoming sort of White Widow and a major die-hard. She is giving it her all, and by the end, it’s like she’s going off a cliff. She’s just going for it, whatever it takes. I mean, when you work on something so much, you get knocked down, you get knocked down. It’s literally I-will-die-on-this-treadmill-before-I-get-off-of-it kind of deal. That’s what it is for Addy. The stakes are really high, and it’s really exciting to see where the needle turns and where everything ends up going.”

TV GEEK TALK: Should the fans prepare themselves for some major heartbreak, as is typical in season finales of other shows? Is there any kind of ‘happy ending’ for anybody at all in the finale?

Anastasia Baranova: “I’m trying to recall if anything ‘happy’ happens at all. Really.”

TV GEEK TALK: [Laughs] Oh, no!

Anastasia Baranova: “[Laughs] Yeah, I don’t think anything good happens. I always love how we end every season, and all of us are going, ‘I don’t know how we’re going to get out of THIS. Yikes! You have us in a corner.’ ”

TV GEEK TALK: The last question I have about this season is I guess Hector, or Escorpion’s, fate is still up in the air. Will that get some kind of resolution, or will the fans at least find out more about that?

Anastasia Baranova: “I think that is the one bit of release. You do find out what’s going on. Well, maybe not what’s going on, but you do touch base on it.”

TV GEEK TALK: Looking back on the season, what would you say has been the best part or perhaps the most memorable moment?

Anastasia Baranova: “Oh, wow. Well, I think the Doc and Addy relationship is really adorable. I mean, Doc is just great, period, right? Doc and 10K are cute. Doc and Warren are cute. Doc and Murphy are cute. I love Russell so much, and we have a natural kind of love for each other. I mean, he is pretty much always the comic relief, and Addy has had a few sarcastic/losing-her-mind moments. I really loved ‘The Election’ episode, and they had such a sweet little banter. That was really fun, sort of go down the Lucy trail with Doc. That was really fun, and also, developing the Lucy relationship too. Obviously, Lucy was going to be a great character. Precocious, sassy, and super-sweet. And, if you think about it, Addy is supposed to be my age, early 20’s, and obviously with the world being where it is, she’s not thinking about having a family. That stuff is so supernatural for someone to want, for a woman to want. And, so, getting to play some of that out with Lucy and having someone to protect and having someone to care for. She’s had so many years now just fighting and killing, and I think it’s really sweet to see Addy rounded out a bit more and to have grown more into a woman because that’s what Lucy requires her to be.”

TV GEEK TALK: Do you have a favorite Season 3 episode or one that you enjoyed filming more than the others?

Anastasia Baranova: “Honestly, I haven’t seen this upcoming episode yet, but I have a feeling I’m really going to like it. But, I also really The Election one, I don’t know why. I really love Sketchy and Skeezy, and those are usually my favorites. I mean, they’re just so great! So, yeah, The Election episode. Oh, wait! Maybe Doc in the insane asylum. Oh my God! To see Doc play with so much material was so good! And, Doc and 10K, the cutest thing you’ve ever seen. A lot of great guest-stars in that episode as well. Ooooh, so maybe the asylum episode. The Asylum or The Election.”

TV GEEK TALK: Now looking forward to Season 4. Assuming that Addy survives the finale (and we sure hope she does!), what would you like to see for your character next season?

Anastasia Baranova: “Oh, wow. Well, assuming we somehow get out of this one, like we always somehow wiggle our way out of a difficult predicament, I’d want for the mission to continue and come to some sort of fruition. Get Lucy, keep her safe, and protect her so that she can get in touch with some sort of medical person somewhere with some good intentions. I also would like to see what happens with Zona and for [Addy] to come out of there swinging. And, if some sort of love happens for Addy, that would be nice, because, you know, it’s the apocalypse, and you kind of get lonely [Laughs]. Maybe joining forces with someone who has that vision of life going on somehow. Well, not Murphy’s vision of life going on.”

TV GEEK TALK: Besides your particular character, is there anything else you would love to see happen in Season 4?

Anastasia Baranova: “Yeah, obviously more weird zombies. I think we have set a really cool precedent for the mutated and weird ones, and I love the stuff they come up with. And, then, as for Murphy, he has been poked and prodded and pushed around, and I do like that he’s found his power, and he’s kind of figuring out what that means. And, also, he’s just looking so good. Just so dashing, so weirdly-colored and mutated, and so stylish. Always so stylish. So, from that perspective, for the show to continue to expand with Murphy and also for him to have more great outfits and great looks and all of that [Laughs]. I’d also like to see the gang get back together and sort of move as a unit again. It was fun to go off and do our own thing, but I didn’t get to see Keith all year! So, yeah, it would really be fun to unite again. ”
