Warning: General spoilers ahead
Still reeling from last week’s gut-wrenching episode? Yeah, me too. We all knew that Vasquez was unstable and on a downward spiral, and I even had prepared myself for the possibility/probability that he would turn out to be the Red Hand and killed. But, I did *not* foresee Hector getting caught in the crosshairs and going out as well. Of course, with Hector opening his eyes in that final scene, there is a glimmer of hope that perhaps Dr. Mei’s (Sydney Viengluang) new vaccine did actually work. Given that we are heading into the final few episodes of the season, I suspect we’ll find out soon enough.
In sharp contrast to last week’s very dark episode, tonight we embark on a fun little trip to visit Miss Lucy (guest-star Madelyn Grace Obermeier). As was hinted in several pre-season interviews and also from the title of the episode, Lucy isn’t the 1 year-old toddler she should be and instead, has aged 10-12 years. The last time we saw Lucy was in the season 2 finale with her 2 zombie “playmates,” and since then, not only has she aged even more but she has made several other new Z-friends — all complete with their own little costumes made by Lucy. Nothing like having your own life-size Raggity-Ann who will play with you anytime you want.
However, even with all of her loyal playmates, Lucy still seems a little lonely, and so, when her Maw and Paw want to just kill Addy (Anastasia Baranova) and Doc (Russell Hodgkinson), Lucy stops them and has a very good reason — she needs some more people for her game of hide and seek! Lucy also has lots of questions about her real Mom and Dad, and poor Doc is given the task to explain that mess to her….well, at least the version where Mom and Dad are royalty and fell in love over blueberry pie. Well, it does give her an explanation (uh, kind of) of why she’s blue!
All in all, a very fun and light-hearted episode — at least until the very end when Lucy gets a 3rd, and very unwelcome, visitor. Unlike Addy and Doc who seem to be surprisingly good with children, this guy sucks with kids which makes for some hilarious scenes. You thought Van Diesel in “The Pacifier” was funny — just you wait!
Episode 3.11 of Z Nation is titled “They Grow Up So Quickly” and airs tonight at 9/8c on Syfy. In the meantime, check the below sneak peek and fantastic promotional photos.
