Walker Stalker Con is traditionally a con focused on the horror genre, but occasionally other popular science fiction or comic-based shows are invited, and fortunately for those attending the Orlando event this past weekend, FOX’s Gotham was one of them. Everyone tied to the series are very hard at work on season 2, but fan favorite Robin Lord Taylor, Drew Powell, David Mazouz, and Sean Pertwee made time in their busy schedule to attend, and the fans were beyond thrilled. Most of the weekend was spent signing autographs and visiting with fans, but they did squeeze in 30 minutes on Sunday afternoon for a Q & A panel, which was a very fun and exciting way to end an already fantastic weekend.
First, I have to say that while The Penguin was already my favorite character on the show (and a favorite among most of the fans which was demonstrated by the super-long line to meet the actor all weekend long), seeing this panel made me love Robin Lord Taylor even more. The guy is just so humble and gracious and fully realizes that he has been blessed to land such a pivotal role on one of the biggest shows on network television. This is especially true since just a little over a year ago, he had no job, was not that well-known, and now, everyone, everywhere knows his face with the series often dubbed “The Penguin Show.”
Of course, the scripts for season 2 are still being ironed out, but the cast did offer a few details on what to expect. First, David Mazouz confirmed that the Batman that we all know will be much more developed going into the new season, with, of course, Alfred playing a major role in that. They also talked a little about Lucius Fox, who was introduced at the very end of season 1 and who is portrayed by Chris Chalk.
If you recall from the comic-book series, Lucius becomes CEO of Wayne Enterprises once Bruce takes up his vigilantism. He is somewhat of a tech guru, and as Bruce gets older, he himself becomes a science genius, with a good deal of that coming from Lucius. One of the great things about Lucius Fox is all of his cool toys, and so, one of the big questions is will we get to see some of these gadgets in season 2. When asked, the cast really couldn’t say for sure since the scripts are still being worked out, but they did admit that the chances are good.
After the panel was over, all 4 cast members were whisked away to the airport because it was back to work the following day. However, they will be on their way to San Diego next week for SDCC, and so be sure to check back with the site for coverage of that event. In the meantime, just to show you what you missed in Orlando, here’s a video clip and some photos from the panel.
Gotham returns for season 2 September 21st at 8/7c on FOX.
