You know, before Fear The Walking Dead premiered, we were given up-close-and-personal profiles of most of the main characters, and even before then, we had heard their names and seen their faces all over social media for months. Kim Dickens as “Madison Clark”. Cliff Curtis as “Travis Manawa”. Frank Dillane as “Nick Clark”. And, I could go on and on.
However, never was there mentioned this geeky high school kid, Tobias, with a bad case of acne who would ultimately have the zombie apocalypse figured out before it officially kicked in. We see Tobias for the first time in the Pilot when he gets into trouble with Madison for bringing a knife at school. By the end of that episode, fans were curious about this quirky new character who came out of nowhere, but it wasn’t until the following episode, “So Close, Yet So Far,” that Tobias was solidified as a fan favorite on the show.
It is in this episode that Tobias gives Madison a crash 101 course in apocalypse survival and also saves her from walker Arty. Then, poof — Tobias disappears, and season 1 ends with no further updates on what happened to the series’ new fan favorite or whether he is even still alive. The writers, those sadistic bastards! Since then, fans have been rallying for Tobias’ return, and in a very short period of time and just 2 episodes, actor Lincoln Castellanos’ life is changed forever and he’s now the face of one of the biggest shows on television. Talk about going from 0 to 60 in less than a second.
This past weekend, Lincoln had his very own panel at Walker Stalker Con Atlanta , and that mere fact alone should tell you how popular this character has become. Still very humbled by his overnight success, Lincoln discussed how he landed this “dream role,” the character’s very surprising popularity, and whether he thinks we will be seeing Tobias again soon. Check out what he had to say:
