This year’s San Diego Comic-Con was, in a way, bittersweet. SDCC has always been one of my favorite times of the year, but this time, it also meant saying good-bye to the cast of BBC America’s Orphan Black. Yes, I know, I know, the show’s final season isn’t set to air until the Spring of 2017, but still, it was the series’ final year at Comic-Con, which is very depressing given that Sarah and her sestras have become a fixture at the event since the show’s debut in 2013.
On a positive note, we were able to chat with the cast, Executive Producer Graeme Manson and Director John Fawcett about the show’s upcoming final season, which for me, was one of the best parts of the con. Of course, production hasn’t even begun on season 5, and so, very little could actually be revealed yet . However, we were able to pry out a few goodies.
First, and foremost, if you’re a big Delphine (Evelyne Brochu) fan, I think you can probably do a happy dance about now. Over the past couple of months, there has been a great deal of speculation that Delphine had been brought back for only that brief moment in the season 4 finale but that there were no plans of the character returning in season 5. However, unless Manson and Fawcett are purposely yanking our chain, I really don’t think that’s the case now. “Yeah, that was tough keeping [Delphine’s return] a secret too. And, people were upset with us that we put a bullet in Delphine. We wanted to tell people, ‘Please stop hurting us. We have a big surprise for you [Laughs],'” Manson and Fawcett explained.
As for what else to expect in the final season, don’t look for any new clones to be introduced and instead, the hard-core fans can look forward to some quality time with each of their favorite sisters. “While we would like to introduce a new clone each season, right now we are more interested in seeing where each of our existing clones came from and where they are now. Have them, as well as the audience, understand the journey. So, if, say, you’re a Cosima fan, you’ll get that big Cosima-centric episode. The character’s full backstory,” Manson and Fawcett teased. “We’re excited, though. It’s going to be big. It’s got a big ending, it’s got a lot of answers.”
Orphan Black returns for its 5th, and final, season in the Spring of 2017. In the meantime, check out the below video interviews where the cast reminisces on the past 5 years and what they’re hoping for on the show’s final journey.
