So, what did everyone think of last night’s season-ender? All I can say is THAT is what I call a season finale and how it should be done! In the last 10 minutes of the episode, Dr. Brennan is kidnapped presumably by the serial killer dubbed “The Puppeteer,” and in the final scene, the curtain is pulled away to reveal that her captor is former Jeffersonian squintern, Dr. Zack Addy (Eric Millegan). As the veteran FOX series heads into its final season, it had been known for a while that there were plans to bring back the fan-favorite who made a very unceremonious exit from the show in season 3 after the reveal that he was the apprentice of the serial killer Gormogon. But, it was a very well-kept secret that the character’s big return would actually occur in the season 11 finale. Big props to the writers and the PR team for keeping a lid on it all.

Last night’s big finale actually had perfect timing because the Bones Press Room was today. In attendance were series stars Emily Deschanel, David Boreanaz, TJ Thyne,Michaela Conlin, John Boyd as well as Executive Producers Jonathan Collier and Michael Peterson. Check out the below video interviews, but among other things, here are some goodies all Bones fans have to look forward to once the show returns in January:

• David Boreanaz directed last night’s epic finale, and Emily Deschanel will be directing the season 12 premiere. The season 12 opener will be like a Part 2 of the season 11 finale where we will learn Zack’s involvement with The Puppeteer and the related murders.
• Zack Addy is most definitely back. Even though all of our questions will be answered about Zack and The Puppeteer in the season 12 premiere, Zack will be returning for at least 3 or 4 more episodes of the show’s final season. I interviewed actor Eric Millegan this afternoon, and he said the same thing.
• Besides Zack, several other characters from seasons past will also be returning, one of which is a big villain from back in season 1 (hmmm…. any guesses? Howard Epps would have been a good guess except he died in the episode “The Man In The Cell.”) Another is Stephen Fry reprising his role as Gordan Wyatt.
• Series star Tamara Taylor said there’s going to be at least 2 to 3 deaths. But, don’t start freaking yet, because she goes on to clarify that none of the main cast is on the chopping block.
• Every one of the cast members said that, without a doubt, these final episodes will be a very satisfying conclusion to a story that has spanned more than a decade, and they all agreed that the fans should be very pleased.

Bones  will return for a 12-episode final season in early 2017.
