For those who were hoping for an extended first season for NBC’s new thriller Constantine, it doesn’t look like it’s going to happen. Based upon the DC Comics’ Hellblazer, Constantine could have been given an additional 9 episodes bringing it to a full season, but NBC has declined to do so according to Deadline.
Constantine premiered in late October to 4.3 million viewers total and a 1.4 demo rating, which was far below Dracula’s premiere ratings, and we know how things ended for that series.
But, fans, don’t start wigging out just yet. NBC hasn’t cancelled the series, and it could still get a season 2. Part of that may depend on Hannibal’s performance, which is set to return for season 3 in the same time slot in late Spring. While Hannibal has had consistently lower ratings than other NBC series in the past, it was given a given a season 3 anyways, primarily because of its low cost and its critical acclaim.
Constantine will continue to air the remainder of its 13 episodes on Fridays at 10/9c on NBC.
